Imagine hiking in Portugal on the Western Algarve, the „Wild West“, through the Parque Natural de Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina.
Walking, away from mass tourism and street noises. Pure nature, and always along the coast...

The  Parque Natural de Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina with its 75000 ha, stretches out from Burgau west of Lagos all the way up to Porto Covo in the Alentejo Litoral over a 100 km along the coast.
Costa Vicentina as the southern part of the Natural Park and the Algarve, both end in Odeceixe where they go over into the Alentejo Litoral.

The Natural Park offers breathtaking nature with unique plant and animal life, steep cliffs of up to a hundred meters high, wild dune landscapes that reach all the way down to the edge of the cliffs, the most beautiful wild and lonely beaches, and hardly a soul around.
3000 hours of sunshine per year and a cooling seabreeze even in the peak of summer, make the Algarve Walkabout a year round option for the nature and activity loving vacationist who can explore the untouched and lonely side of the Algarve together with us in a small round of  no more than 9 people.
With the sun on our backs as we walk towards the refreshing, mostly northwesterly breeze, the Walkabout starts in the southeast and goes along the fishermen´s trails all the way up to the northwestern end of the Algarve and the Costa Vicentina.

We might meet some fishermen on our way, looking at us curiously, wondering what in the world we are doing, since the Portuguese normally do not stroll around in nature just for the fun of it!
The only time we leave the coastline, will be to hike around gorges too steep to pass, or to walk towards one of our accomodations.

ABOUT ME

Already at the age of five, my parents as passionate hikers took me and my sister out on hikes and climbing tours over fields and forests of northern Germany and into the German Alps.
This way they planted the seed of my hiking enthusiasm and my appreciation and love for the beauty of unspoiled nature.
With the Algarve Walkabout I fullfill a life-dream of mine.
On the search to find the right living place on our planet, I traveled, hiked and wave-surfed around the world during and after finishing my Biology studies. Ten years ago, I set my feet on the ground of the Western Algarve for the first time.
Already back then I kept thinking that there must be so many hiking enthusiasts out there, who would greatly appreciate the natural beauty of the Algarve, away from mass tourism. I simply felt a need to share this paradise, with its unique land- and seascapes, with others.
Today, with a sense of joy and fulfillment, I offer the Algarve Walkabout to you.

Life is too precious to just run through it
attempting to meet a never-ending series of goals.
So much of life´s beauty becomes lost along the way.
The way is the goal.
This life motto I carry in me and with me
in my backpack as we share the Algarve Walkabout.
